a tree that no longer exists


The poplar species this wood came from died out around five hundred years ago. The trunk survived only because it lay in a bog for over a thousand years, sealed off from air.
Two pieces came out of it: a coffee table measuring 57 by 35 centimetres, and a rotating room divider whose surface is brushed so the grain catches the light.
The structure of this wood cannot be recreated and cannot be reordered. When the trunk is used up, that is the end of it.
